Adopt the Heart of our Half-way House

With the support of friends and supporters and charitable partners (Ontario Trillium Foundation, Canadian Auto Workers, F.K. Morrow Foundation, J.P. Bickell Foundation, Marion Ethel Kamm Charitable Foundation, Jackman Foundation), and with designated funding committed by our Board of Directors, we have raised $300,000 to date. These funds have been directed to upgrade and refurbish the women's sleeping quarters and washroom facilities in our women's half-way house. Our next challenge is to secure $500,000 to renovate the women's common areas, our main floor offices, counselling and meeting rooms.

Donations to Phase II of the Elizabeth Fry Renovations Campaign will help to refurbish and renovate the Women's Common Room or Women's Wellness Lounge. These communal areas assist women to develop life management skills and maintain family ties as they successfully re-enter the community.

Women's Common Room

The 2nd floor common room is the heart of the residence. It serves as the main gathering space where regular house meetings are held. It includes a living/dining room and kitchen where women preparing to return to their families and the community can relax, socialize, read, and eat, in an atmosphere of safety and mutual respect. Furnishings required include three couches, one area rug, window blinds, appliances, new dining table, and bookcases.

Women's Wellness Lounge

The 3rd floor quiet space is where women relax, read, meditate and desensitize after a day of work or therapeutic counselling. Furnishings required include two love seats, chairs, window blinds, area rug, fitness equipment, and meditation fountain.

Donations directed to improvements and furnishings also help to fund community-based solutions to the poverty, abuse, and addiction-related causes of our clients' past behaviour and contribute to a safer community.
